Admissions

Admission
The College Council specifies the number of students to be admitted in accordance with the comprehensive development plan of the Kingdom. For a student to be admitted, he/ she has to meet the general admission criteria of KSU and should get no less than 85% for his/ her high school degree.

Arabic Language and Literature Department
 Admission Criteria:
1. Bachelor Degree:
• The College Council specifies the number of students to be admitted in accordance with the comprehensive development plan of the Kingdom. For a student to be admitted, he/ she has to meet the general admission criteria of KSU and should get no less than 85% for his/ her high school degree. There are no other criteria specified by the Department for admission.

Transfer Requirements:
o Dates for transferring from a department to another in the College of Arts are specified by the College Council.
o A student may transfer from other departments to the Arabic Language and Literature Department if he/ she passes the entrance test and/ or the interview.
o Each student is responsible for contacting the Department to learn about the dates specified.
 

2. Mass Degree:
An applicant should:
•  Be a Saudi citizen. An official scholarship is required for non-Saudis.
• Have a bachelor degree or a license from a Saudi university or an accredited university.
• Be physically fit and of good conduct.
• Attach two recommendation letters with the application form. Recommendation letters should be written by two different instructors who have taught the applicant previously.
• Have a bachelor degree with no less than a GPA of 3.75.
• Provide a written consent for enrolling in the programme from his/ her employer.
• Pass the oral and the written tests.

3. PhD  Degree:
An applicant should:
• Be a Saudi citizen. An official scholarship is required for non-Saudis.
• Have a bachelor degree or a license from a Saudi university or an accredited university.
• Be physically fit and of good conduct.
• Attach two recommendation letters with the application form. Recommendation letters should be written by two different instructors who have taught the applicant previously.
• Have a master’s degree with no less than a GPA of 3.75.
• Be a full-time student.
• Submit his/ her thesis to the Department to check his/ her eligibility for the programme.
• Pass the oral and written tests.

 

 

Social Studies Department
 Admission Criteria:
1. Bachelor Degree:
• A student should get no less than 80% for his/ her high school degree.

2. Ms Degree:
An applicant should:
•  Have a bachelor degree with no less than a GPA of 3.75.
• Pass the written test held by the Students of Higher Education Committee.
• Pass the interview held by the Department.
• Attach two recommendation letters with the application form. Recommendation letters should be written by two different instructors who have taught the applicant previously.
• Pass the supplementary courses specified by the Department for the students enrolled in the programme with different majors.

3. PhD  Degree:
An applicant should:
•  Have a master’s degree with no less than a GPA of 3.75.
• Pass the written test held by the Department.
• Pass the interview held by the Department.
• Score no less than 450 in TOEFL.
• Pass the supplementary courses specified by the Department for the students enrolled in the programme with different majors.

 

Information and Library Science Department
Admission Criteria:
1. Bachelor Degree:
• The College Council specifies the number of students to be admitted in accordance with the comprehensive development plan of the Kingdom. For a student to be admitted, he/ she has to meet the general admission criteria of KSU and should:
o Get no less than 85% for his/ her high school degree.
• Each Department has its specific criteria for admission. Please contact the Department for more information.

2. Master’s Degree:
For a student to be admitted, he/ she should:
•  Meet the Standardised Admission Criteria for higher education in Saudi universities.
• Pass the English Proficiency Test held by the English Department in the College of Arts/ KSU or score no less than 400 points in TOEFL or an accredited equivalent.
• Pass the written test held by the Students of Higher Education Committee.

Students with different majors should pass:
• Supplementary courses specified by the Department Council.
• A course on field training for students who did not have the opportunity to work in an institution, of a related nature to information and library science, for at least six months.

Transfer Requirements:
o For university students, a student should have no less than a GPA of (2.50).
o For high school students, a student should get no less than 85% for his/ her high school degree.

 

Geography Department
 Admission Criteria:
1. Bachelor Degree:
• The College Council specifies the number of students to be admitted in accordance with the comprehensive development plan of the Kingdom. For a student to be admitted, he/ she has to meet the general admission criteria of KSU and should:
o Get no less than 85% for his/ her high school degree.
• Each Department has its specific criteria for admission. Please contact the Department for more information.

2. Master’s Degree:
• To be admitted, a student should meet the KSU admission criteria for enrolling in master’s degree programmes.

3. PhD  Degree:
• To be admitted, a student should meet the KSU admission criteria for enrolling in PhD degree programmes.

English Language and Literature Department
Admission Criteria:
1. Bachelor Degree:
A student should:
• Have a high school degree from a Saudi school or an equivalent.
• Get no less than 90% for his/ her high school degree.
• Pass the entrance test held by the Department each academic semester (for freshmen or students who want to transfer).

2. Master’s Degree:
A student should:
• Have a bachelor degree from KSU or an equivalent with no less than a GPA of 3.75. Exceptions are made for students with a GPA of 3.25 upon the recommendation of the Department Council and the approval of the College.
• Pass the entrance written test.
• Pass the interview.

3. PhD  Degree:
A student should:
• Have a master’s degree from KSU or an equivalent with no less than a GPA of 3.75. Exceptions are made upon the recommendation of the Department Council and the approval of the College in addition to any essential criteria the Department sees fit.
• Pass the comprehensive test.
• Speak a foreign language (other than English).
• Pass the interview.

 

History Department
Admission Criteria:
1. Bachelor Degree:

o Get no less than 85% for his/ her high school degree.
• Each Department has its specific criteria for admission. Please contact the Department for more information.

2. Master’s Degree:
• To be admitted, a student should meet the KSU admission criteria for enrolling in master’s degree programmes.

3. PhD  Degree:
• To be admitted, a student should meet the KSU admission criteria for enrolling in PhD degree programmes.
 
Mass Communication Department
Admission Criteria:

o Get no less than 85% for his/ her high school degree.
• Each Department has its specific criteria for admission. Please contact the Department for more information.

2. Master’s Degree:
• To be admitted, a student should meet the KSU admission criteria for enrolling in master’s degree programmes.
• A student should pass the written test which measures his/ her linguistic competence of both Arabic and English.
• A student should pass the interview.
