Academic Units of The Department
First: Student Academic Affairs Unit
Supervising the Mass Communication Department’s subject schedules to prepare and present them at the beginning of each semester, and supervising the distribution of the teaching load for each faculty member in the department. This includes determining hall numbers and following up on that at the beginning of each semester.
- To supervise student registration at the beginning of each semester, where a number of faculty members and some support staff follow up on the students’ receipt of their study schedules in a timely manner and then follow up on amending the schedules according to the needs of each student.
- Academic guidance for students, where all the department’s students are distributed into groups, so that each faculty member supervises a group and follows up the students’ academic progress, guides them in this field, and helps them face any difficulties or problems they may encounter during their university studies.
- Supervising the assignment of students to one of the three sections of the department, where each student in the Mass Communication Department, after passing the sixth level, chooses a section of specialization from one of the three sections, which are public relations, radio, television, and journalism. And follow up on this, taking into account the student’s desire, the department’s capabilities, and the needs of the labor market.
- Supervising non-curricular activities for department students, such as holding public lectures and holding social parties that help strengthen social ties between students and department employees in general.
- Organizing cultural performances, such as holding exhibitions and displaying artistic works, such as graduation projects completed by department students.
Second: Graduate Studies Unit
In its master's and doctoral programs, the Graduate Studies Unit seeks to achieve the following goals:
- Applying the latest scientific and applied trends in the fields of communication and media studies and research.
- Preparing qualified graduate students specialized in the fields of scientific research for media and communication.
- Providing and facilitating the academic and educational climate for graduate students.
The unit's tasks are limited to the following:
- Follow up on the college’s policy for postgraduate studies and its implementation.
- Develop and define the department’s graduate studies programs in terms of plans, descriptions of subjects, and teaching methods.
- Periodic and continuous evaluation, updating and development of programs.
- Supporting and following up postgraduate students from the beginning of their studies in the program until their graduation through:
- Approval of message titles.
- Approval of messages after completion.
- Determine committees to discuss theses.
- Approval of message titles.
Third: Quality and Academic Accreditation Unit
The unit seeks to raise the level of quality in the department in all its educational and research elements in order to achieve the department’s aspirations at the level of students, professors, graduates, and media institutions associated with the department. Specifically, the unit works to achieve the following goals:

- Preparing the strategic plan for the Mass Communication Department in accordance with the requirements of international accreditation bodies.
- Preparing the self-report for the Mass Communication Department, including all standards of the National Authority for Academic Accreditation and Evaluation (Saudi Arabia)
- Preparing the self-report for the Mass Communication Department, including all its standards for the Accreditation Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (American)
- Follow up on all the work of the department’s subcommittees related to accreditation and quality, and ensure that accreditation standards apply to the committees’ reports.
- Representing the department at the college and university regarding accreditation and quality.
- Spreading the culture of quality and accreditation in the department through specialized courses and workshops.
- Coordinating expert visits to the department to enrich knowledge and learn about the work mechanisms of national and international accreditation bodies.
- Official follow-ups of national and international accreditation bodies.
- Organizing visits by international auditors in the first phase (evaluation and feedback) and the second phase (final arbitration).
Within the framework of this direction for the department, the unit has now begun preparing for academic accreditation requirements for local and international bodies at two levels:
- The national level through the National Authority for Academic Accreditation and Evaluation
The National Commission for Academic Accreditation & Assessment
- International level through the Accreditation Council for Education in Journalism and Public Communications (American)
The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism & Mass Communications.
The unit’s headquarters includes all documents and evidence related to accreditation, including course files, descriptions, and reports, the collection of writings and research of faculty members in the department, and members’ files including their CVs in Arabic and English. In addition to all requirements for academic accreditation, including evidence and evidence related to the (eleven) national or (nine) international accreditation standards.
Fourth: Academic Support Center for Female Students
The unit seeks to raise the level of quality in the department in all its educational and research elements in order to achieve the department’s aspirations at the level of students, professors, graduates, and media institutions associated with the department. Specifically, the unit works to achieve the following goals:
- Submitting to the center the names of struggling and outstanding students.
- Communicate with faculty members to nominate distinguished female students to volunteer at the center, clarifying the mission, goals, and benefits granted to the student volunteer from the center.
- Working to introduce the center within the department among female students to benefit from the center.
- Communicate with the academic advisors in the department to nominate outstanding female students and provide the center with their names.
- Communicate with subject professors who receive requests from beneficiary students to nominate volunteer students in these required subjects.
- Attending the center’s meetings with the supervisor.
