Master of Arts in Mass Communication (Project track)

About the Program

In December 2025, the Department of Media introduced a new academic program called "Master of Arts in Media with Coursework and Research Project" and the department opened registration for those interested through the official website of the Deanship of Graduate Studies at King Saud University. This program is equivalent in its study plan to the basic program, but it is (without a thesis); and it came in response to the growing needs of the local and Arab labor market in various media fields.



Program Mission

To provide students with the knowledge, scientific foundations, and communication skills to practice communication and media work based on Arab and Islamic culture and human heritage.



Objectives of the Program

This program primarily aims to develop human resources in the field of communication and media, qualify national talents to work in various media sectors and contribute knowledge in its fields, and keep pace with developments in the media sector in line with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which seeks to make the media a key partner in national development and raise the quality of media products. It also scientifically, academically, and through research aims towards additional goals, including:

  • To provide students with advanced academic training through a combination of theoretical studies and practical applications in various media fields. 

  • To align academic training with the diverse needs of society and its media institutions, in accordance with Islamic teachings, social values, and the goals of sustainable development plans.

  • To provide local and regional media institutions with distinguished and specialized personnel who possess theoretical and applied media skills and are qualified at the highest levels in various media fields.

  • Providing an opportunity for scientific, practical and applied cooperation and the exchange of experiences in the field of media between the Department of Media and other departments in academic and media institutions inside and outside the Kingdom.

  • Raising awareness in society about the role of media, its functions and its various effects through students who are trained to work in different media fields.



Admission Requirements

The curriculum for this program includes 38 credit hours for students holding a bachelor's degree in media; 6 of these credit hours are allocated to a research project at the end of the program.

As for students who hold bachelor’s degrees in non-media specializations, they are required to complete 49 study units, which also include 6 units for the research project, while the additional 11 hours represent supplementary materials aimed at preparing non-specialists and providing them with basic media knowledge before joining the program.

In order to be considered for admission, the applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of (very good), pass the personal interview, and pass the university graduates’ aptitude test with a minimum score of (65).
