First: University Newspaper (Resala)

Resalat Al-Jami’ah newspaper, affiliated with King Saud University, is the first university newspaper in the Kingdom, and the first Arab university newspaper on the Internet. Its first issue was published on the 29th of Dhul-Qi’dah in the year 1395 AH, corresponding to the second of December 1975. It was published every two weeks, then it turned into a weekly edition, and has been distributed for free since. It was established to this day, and its circulation currently reaches more than 30 thousand copies, down from 8 thousand copies in the first year of its publication. The newspaper was initially printed at Al-Riyadh newspaper presses until October 24, 1981, when its printing moved to the university presses. In the beginning, the students took over the distribution of the newspaper, after which distribution was entrusted to a specialized company, and the scope of distributing the newspaper extended internally to governmental and private institutions, universities and their branches. It was also sent to more than 30 countries for distribution to cultural attachés and Saudi scholarships abroad, and students of the Mass Communication Department are trained in it, especially students of the Journalism Division, and it has a page on the Internet on the university’s official website.

Objectives of the Newspaper

  •     Training students of the Mass Communication Department on various journalistic arts (editing, advertising directing, photography, and information organization)
  •     Linking theoretical studies in the field of journalism and media with applied practices.
  •     A dialogue and voice arena for students to discuss their various issues and exchange visions, ideas and proposals on various academic, administrative and community affairs.
  •     Informing about the university, as it represents a channel of communication between the university’s various employees, including administration, employees, professors, and students.
  •     A window of communication with scholarship students and all educational institutions at home and abroad.
  •     A means of documenting the university, its activities and programs.
  •     Participate in activating and supporting important university events by issuing special preparations and supplements.


Supervision of the Newspaper

  •     The editorial and administration supervisor is appointed based on a decision from His Excellency the University President and a nomination from the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The appointment is for a period of one year, subject to renewal.
  •     In its first nine years, the newspaper was supervised by a number of faculty members from various departments of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (formerly Arts).
  •     Supervision moved from 1403 to the faculty members of the Mass Communication Department.

Second: Saudi Association for Media and Communication (SAMC)

Objectives of the Association

  •     Developing scientific thought in the field of media and communication and working to develop these sciences and specializations.
  •     Conducting specialized studies and research in various fields of media in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  •     Scientific and professional communication between academics, media professionals, and those responsible for media affairs in the Kingdom. Developing professional performance and exchanging local, Arab, and international media experiences.
  •     Providing consultations in the field of media and communication for the public and private sectors.

Programs and Activities of the Association 

  •     Organizing the annual media forum.
  •     Holding lectures in the fields of media and communication.
  •     Holding seminars and workshops.
  •     Conducting scientific and applied studies and research.
  •     Providing scientific and professional consultations.
  •     Organizing the Media Excellence Award.
  •     Encouraging writing, translation and publishing.
  •     Holding training courses.
  •     Publish a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
  •     An issue published by a media periodical.
  •     Organizing field visits for the association’s employees.
  •     Holding exhibitions and conferences.        


Annual Forums of the Association

  •     The first is entitled: Saudi media, reality features, and future trends (2003 AD).
  •     The second is entitled: The Image of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the World (2004 AD).
  •     The third is entitled: Media Education and Training in the Arab World (2005).
  •     The fourth is entitled: Media and Crises: Foundations and Strategies (2006 AD).
  •     The fifth is entitled: Investment in the media and communication industry (2009).
  •     The sixth is entitled: New Media: Theoretical and Applied Challenges (2012 AD).
  •     The seventh, entitled: Media and the Economy: Integrating Roles in the Service of Development (2016 AD).
  •     The eighth is entitled: Media and Development in Light of Vision 2030 (2019 AD). 
  •     The ninth, entitled: Specialized Media in Light of Developments in the Field and the Diversity of Its Methods (2023 AD).

Third: Weekly Pictorial Report

The Mass Communication Department began producing a video television report in 1430 AH, corresponding to 2009 AD, aiming to document and publish the university’s various events and activities in all colleges, departments, and units.

The Mass Communication Department is responsible for producing a weekly news report aimed at documenting and publishing the university's various events and activities in all colleges, departments, and units.

It is prepared and presented by students of the Mass Communication Department so that this report becomes the nucleus of a training unit through which students are trained and qualified practically to face life in radio and television institutions and trained on the latest modern technical means and devices.

The report is published on the university’s main website and the weekly report unit’s social media sites.


Fourth: King Saud University Podcast Channel

The Mass Communication Department undertakes the task of producing radio materials prepared and presented by students of the Mass Communication Department and published on the university channel on the following podcast platforms:
